About Our Instructor

Akua is the Founder of Serenity Circle Inc. and BlackBeautyCutie LLC where she provides space for healing practices, sister-mentoring circles, coaching, and more to black women and girls. She continues to bring a culturally relevant scope to her work and has a specific interest in guiding, encouraging, empowering, and inspiring girls and women of African descent through various life transitions. She understands the intersectionality and complexities of being a black, educated woman and so much more. This keeps her grounded as she continues to lead by example becoming equipped with various tools to serve the community effectively. She also engages in self-love, and self-care practices aligning the mind, body, and spirit so she can continue to do the work she is purposely driven to do. Ms. Cason has worked with various elementary and high school programs throughout Chicago.

She also currently serves as Interim Director at NEIU-CCICS (Jacob H. Carruthers Center). Here she has provided various academic support and social-emotional tools for students to navigate Higher Education.  She has also hosted workshops, seminars, and summer camps for black girls to support social-emotional development and increase student access to post-secondary options. She also is focused on creating culturally specific academic programming for underrepresented students at the University.
